Carrie Preston is my idea of the perfect character actor, the one whose presence quietly sharpens whatever she's in. From Macon, Georgia, she's beloved as Arlene on True Blood, but it's her Elsbeth Tascioni that truly won me over: a lawyer who seems scattered yet hides a razor-sharp mind, a balance only she could strike. The Emmy for that guest turn felt entirely earned. What impresses me further is how she directs and produces too, never content to simply act.
