Cassidy

Cassidy embodies the Philadelphia battle-rap tradition for me. Earning his name through freestyles and competitions in the late 1990s, then building the Larsiny collective from the ground up, he is the kind of self-made lyricist I deeply respect. What I value is range: he raps, writes, produces, and acts, which tells me there is far more craft here than quick wit. His career has surely had its highs and lows, but the verbal reflexes forged in live battles never really leave a rapper. I will always admire artists who win on the strength of raw, unscripted words.
