Charles Q. Brown Jr.

General CQ Brown Jr. is the kind of figure who doesn't get nearly enough attention outside of defense policy circles, and that's a shame — because his career is genuinely remarkable. A San Antonio kid who went to Texas Tech, flew F-16s, and climbed all the way to Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, he had already made history in 2020 as the first African American to lead a branch of the U.S. armed forces. I've always been struck by how measured and deliberate he comes across in public — no bluster, just quiet authority built over decades of actual experience in the cockpit and in command. Serving as chairman from 2023 to 2025 capped a career that began as a fighter pilot in 1984. A career's worth of credibility, earned the hard way.
