Charlie Sexton

Charlie Sexton is the kind of musician I instinctively respect: a Texas prodigy who scored a hit with "Beat's So Lonely" while still a teenager, then spent decades proving he was no flash in the pan. For me, his long tenure as a guitarist in Bob Dylan's band says everything, because standing beside Dylan demands real taste and chops. He has also earned serious respect as a producer, and his 2017 Americana Instrumentalist of the Year award confirms it. I love players who let the music speak rather than chase the spotlight, and his weathered, soulful guitar work does exactly that.
