Cherie Lunghi

Cherie Lunghi represents the kind of theatre-forged class I deeply admire. Born in Nottingham in 1952, she moved fluidly across stage, film, television and voice work, and earned international recognition as Guenevere in 1981's Excalibur, lending that Arthurian role both nobility and quiet sorrow. What strikes me most is her durability: rather than chasing trends, she became a dependable pillar of British drama for decades. That craftsman's temperament, prioritising depth and presence over flash, is increasingly rare. To me she is the embodiment of a mature performer whose strength lies in restraint and conviction rather than spectacle.
