Chris Difford

I have a soft spot for great lyricists who work behind the curtain, and Chris Difford is exactly that kind of craftsman. As Squeeze's co-founder and wordsmith, his partnership with Glenn Tilbrook produced fifteen studio albums. What draws me in is that he chose the harder, quieter role: shaping the words that make a melody mean something. Frontmen get the adoration, but writers like Difford build the architecture everyone else stands on. I quietly tip my hat to that kind of durable, unglamorous talent.
