Chris Egan

Chris Egan interests me as a textbook example of the Australian actor who builds a foundation at home and then bets on himself abroad. He grew up on Home and Away, the training ground for so many Aussie stars, then crossed to American television in ambitious leading roles on Kings and Dominion. I like that he isn't pinned to one register; he can play the clean-cut romantic lead but also carry the heavier, mythic material those dramas demanded. That range suggests someone who put in the reps rather than coasting on looks. The willingness to leave a comfortable home market and compete internationally is exactly the kind of nerve I admire.
