My Take

Christopher Reeve played Superman so convincingly that the role could have defined him forever; instead, his life after the riding accident gave the word hero its real definition. I find his second act far more moving than his first — a Cornell-educated, classically trained actor who lost nearly everything physically and responded by becoming a relentless advocate for spinal cord research. The Grammy he won for narration proves the charisma survived intact in his voice alone. When I think of Reeve, I think of dignity under unimaginable constraint. Few celebrities ever convert fame into purpose so completely, and I doubt many ever will.
