My Take

What strikes me about Cody Anderson is the distance he traveled. Quincy, California is a tiny mountain town tucked in the Sierra forests, and climbing from there to a Major League Baseball mound with the Cleveland Indians is no small feat. Pitching careers are brutally fragile, one bad elbow and it's over, so the fact that he reached the highest level at all earns my respect. I tend to value the journey over the box score, and Anderson's path from rural obscurity to the big leagues is exactly the kind of quiet underdog story I find myself rooting for long after the final pitch.
