My Take

Danny Guthrie strikes me as a craftsman's midfielder. At just 170 cm, he made more than 200 Premier League and Football League appearances, which tells me he survived on reading the game and technique rather than physique, and that earns my respect. But his story carries a hard edge: gambling debts that led to bankruptcy in 2022. I find that genuinely sobering, a reminder that careers can unravel off the pitch. Rather than pile on judgment, I find myself wanting him to recover. The grit he showed in midfield was real, and I would rather remember that and hope he rebuilds.
