My Take

Dante Exum is a fascinating what-could-have-been case to me. An Australian out of Melbourne who skipped college and went fifth overall to Utah in 2014, he arrived with huge expectations as a long, athletic guard. Injuries kept getting in the way, which is the cruel part of his story, but I admire that he stayed in it, eventually landing with Dallas and representing Australia for that 2020 Tokyo bronze. At 198cm he's got rare size for a guard. I find players who weather repeated setbacks and keep contributing more compelling than smooth, uninterrupted careers. He earned that medal.

Overview

He chose to bypass college and was ultimately selected by the Utah Jazz with the fifth overall pick in the 2014 NBA draft.
