My Take
Darren Criss is one of those rare multi-hyphenates who actually earns every hyphen. He broke through on Glee as Blaine Anderson — effortlessly charming, with a voice that made you forget the show's more chaotic moments — and then completely reinvented himself with The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story in 2018, playing serial killer Andrew Cunanan in a performance so unsettling and layered it won him the Emmy and the Golden Globe. That pivot from lovable TV dreamboat to genuinely chilling dramatic actor took guts, and he nailed it. Add in his singer-songwriter chops and his roots in musical theater, and you've got someone who's been quietly building one of the most versatile careers in his generation. San Francisco kid, University of Michigan grad, and somehow still the most enthusiastic person in whatever room he walks into.
