My Take
Alvarez is the kind of double threat I always admire: a trained American Ballet Theatre dancer who can also act and carry a stage. Winning a Tony for Best Actor in a Musical as one of the original Billy Elliots, at such a young age, could have been a peak that defined and then trapped him. Instead he kept going, landing Bernardo in Spielberg's West Side Story. That refusal to be a child-star footnote impresses me. The physical discipline of ballet clearly underpins his screen presence. He is someone I expect to keep surprising audiences for years.
