My Take
David Baldacci's pivot from practicing attorney to global bestselling novelist is the kind of reinvention story I never tire of. Writing on the side while working in law, he broke through with Absolute Power and never looked back, over 130 million copies across 45-plus languages. What I value most is how he weaponizes his legal training: the thrillers feel structurally sound, the procedural details earned rather than faked. Awards like the Nero are nice, but the real achievement is sustaining that level of plotting over decades. He is a craftsman of suspense who proves that expertise from one life can quietly power another.
