David Tao

To me, David Tao is one of those rare artists who quietly reshaped a whole region's sound. Bridging Mandarin pop with R&B and rock, and shaped by years studying in Los Angeles, he never chased trends so much as bent them toward his own voice. Six Golden Melody Awards is no accident; that's a craftsman being recognized over and over. What I admire most is the restraint, the way depth wins out over flash. When people talk about modern Chinese-language pop, I think his name has to be near the very front of the line.
