David Trone

David Trone fascinates me as a study in the American second act. He built Total Wine & More into a retail empire alongside his brother, then pivoted to public service as a congressman for Maryland's 6th district from 2019 to 2025. Plenty of wealthy people stay comfortable; far fewer step into the grind of elected office where every decision is scrutinized. Whether one agrees with his politics or not, there is a certain conviction in choosing public accountability after private success. I find that crossover from boardroom to ballot box revealing about both the man and the country that rewards it.
