Davit Kubriashvili

I have a soft spot for players like Davit Kubriashvili. A prop from Tbilisi, he represented Georgia at the 2011 Rugby World Cup, anchoring the scrum in the most thankless, unglamorous position on the pitch. Props rarely get the headlines, yet without them a team can't move an inch forward. To do that job for a smaller rugby nation throwing itself bodily against the established powers takes real grit. I'm always more drawn to the mud-and-sweat workers than the highlight-reel stars, and standing at the front of that fight, carrying a country's pride onto the world stage, earns my genuine respect.
