My Take
Daya impressed me early because she arrived with a voice that already had real character. Born Grace Tandon in suburban Pittsburgh, she released her debut EP as a teenager in 2015, and Hide Away, which reached number 23 on the Billboard Hot 100, showed off a slightly shadowed tone and a sharp ear for hooks.
