My Take
Dede Gardner is the kind of figure I think deserves far more recognition than the spotlight usually grants producers. As co-president of Plan B, she helped bring difficult, morally serious films like 12 Years a Slave and Moonlight to the screen, and becoming the first woman to win two Best Picture Oscars is a milestone that says everything about her judgment. What I value is her commitment to substance over spectacle, backing stories that challenge audiences rather than simply entertain them. Working from Winnetka roots to the heart of the industry, she quietly shapes film history from behind the camera.
