My Take
Don Beebe is my favorite kind of athlete: the one remembered less for stats than for refusing to quit. His relentless chase-down to strip the ball at the goal line in a Super Bowl blowout is, to me, a perfect distillation of effort over ego. Out of tiny Chadron State, he carved out nine NFL seasons, mostly with the Buffalo Bills, by simply outworking doubt. That he now coaches the Aurora Spartans in his Illinois hometown feels right; the man clearly believes the lesson he lived is worth passing on. I find his whole story genuinely inspiring.
