Drew Doughty

Drew Doughty is my kind of defenceman, the sort whose value is obvious to anyone who watches closely and invisible to anyone scanning a box score. A second overall pick who delivered on the promise, won a Stanley Cup, and claimed the Norris Trophy in 2016, he embodies the two-way completeness that wins playoff hockey. What I respect even more is his loyalty to the Kings across so many seasons. In a sport that chews up bodies, his durability and big-game composure mark him as a backbone player. Flashy stars come and go, but reliable cornerstones like him define eras.
