Ed Begley, Jr.

Ed Begley Jr. earns my respect on two fronts at once. As the actor behind Dr. Ehrlich on St. Elsewhere he drew six straight Emmy nominations, then built a deep, character-driven body of hundreds of roles. But what fascinates me is his life off-screen: a committed environmentalist who actually lives the solar-and-electric ethos rather than just endorsing it. The son of an Oscar-winning actor, he never coasted on the name. To me he's a rare case of craft and conviction reinforcing each other, and an artist worth admiring for the long haul.
