Eddi Reader

Eddi Reader is, for me, one of Scotland's most quietly essential voices. The clarity she brought to Fairground Attraction still gives me a lift, and her enduring solo career proves it was never a fluke. Three Brit Awards and an MBE place her among the genuinely decorated, yet she's never lost an unpretentious, everyday warmth. What I admire most is her 2003 embrace of Robert Burns: by carrying the national poet's words to new audiences she became a custodian of culture, not just a singer.
