Elize Ryd

Elize Ryd is, in my view, the element that gives Amaranthe its surprising emotional reach. Sharing vocals with a growler and a clean male singer, she brings a soaring, luminous tone that keeps the band's heavy onslaught melodic and human. The fact that she first earned attention as a guest vocalist for Kamelot tells me her talent was recognized early by serious players. As a singer, dancer, and composer, she embodies a versatility that I respect, and she has done something genuinely interesting: smuggling grace and pop sensibility into the world of power metal without diluting its force.
