My Take
As one half of the Coen Brothers, Ethan Coen has had a permanent grip on my movie-loving heart. A Princeton graduate out of St. Louis Park, Minnesota, he and his brother Joel won Best Original Screenplay for Fargo and swept Director, Picture and Adapted Screenplay for No Country for Old Men, with a Palme d'Or in between. From Blood Simple to The Big Lebowski, their work fuses bone-dry comedy, sudden brutality and human absurdity into something no one else can quite replicate. I am a sucker for that ironic, deadpan voice, and every new project sends me to the theater grinning before the lights even dim.
