My Take
Yuki Furukawa is a strange case for me: he broke through by playing Naoki Irie in Mischievous Kiss: Love in Tokyo, a character so coldly perfect that he should have been unbearable. What made it work, I think, is that the actor underneath actually has the credentials — a Keio University education, the 180 cm frame, the composure. Nothing had to be faked. The easy path after a role like that is to be typecast as the aloof handsome one forever, and plenty of actors never escape it. He didn't settle there, moving into film work such as Nonai Poison Berry instead of coasting on the drama that made him famous overseas. He has never struck me as someone chasing noise, and that is usually the kind of career that lasts longest.
