Gary Cherone, to me, is the man who dared to fill an impossible vacancy. The Malden, Massachusetts native earned his stripes fronting Boston's Extreme before stepping in as the third lead vocalist of Van Halen, one of rock's most legendary bands. That gig drew its share of criticism, but I genuinely admire the courage it took to stand behind such an enormous legacy.
