My Take

Okay, I have a soft spot for George Lucas because the guy basically dreamed up a whole galaxy in his head and then bullied the technology into existence to show it to the rest of us. What gets me is the range: American Graffiti is this warm, hot-rod-cruising slice of his own Modesto teenage years, and then Star Wars is pure mythic spectacle, and somehow they come from the same brain. He's never been the loud, schmoozy Hollywood type, more the quiet, bearded tinkerer who'd rather build the tools (Industrial Light & Magic, THX) than stand in the spotlight. People love to argue about his choices, but he stuck to his weird stubborn vision for decades, and honestly, that's exactly why it stuck with us. A genuine world-builder.
