Gil Garcetti

Gil Garcetti interests me as a study in second acts. A USC-trained lawyer, he served two terms as Los Angeles County District Attorney, presiding through the high-pressure era of the early 1990s. Then, instead of resting on a hard-edged legal legacy, he reinvented himself as a photographer, swapping courtroom scrutiny for the gentler scrutiny of the lens. That pivot from prosecutor to artist reveals a curiosity many public figures never indulge. He is also father to former LA Mayor Eric Garcetti, but it is the senior Garcetti's softer creative turn that I find the more compelling story.
