My Take
Gloria Romero is one of those biographies that delights me. Born in Denver, Colorado, she became the undisputed Queen of Philippine Cinema, appearing in more than 300 productions across seven decades. Winning FAMAS Best Actress honors from 1955 all the way to 2000 is a staggering display of longevity and reinvention. To reach the very summit of a national film industry in a country other than your birthplace speaks to extraordinary talent and a deep bond with audiences. I have real reverence for performers who become, in effect, the living history of a nation's cinema, and Romero, who died in January 2025 at 91, is the genuine article: a true legend.
