My Take
Ryuden is one of those sumo stories that really pulls you in — a kid from Kofu who got knocked all the way down to jonokuchi, the absolute bottom rung, and then climbed back up to become the first wrestler from Yamanashi to crack the top division since 1988. That kind of resilience is rare. He earned a technique prize, a fighting spirit prize, and made it all the way to komusubi, which is genuinely impressive. Then the 2021 COVID scandal hit and it got messy — bad timing, bad choices, and the fallout was ugly enough to cost him three tournaments. Since then he's been fighting his way back, some tournaments brilliant, some rough. The talent was never the question. Whether he can fully recapture that momentum is the real story worth watching.
