Haruka Miyashita

Haruka Miyashita is the kind of athlete who makes you do a double-take — 178 cm tall, born in Kuwana, Mie, and grinding her way up through Japanese volleyball to reach national-level competition. That reads like a volleyball coach's dream combination. There's something quietly compelling about players who come from smaller, unhurried cities and carve out a spot on the big stage anyway — it usually means they had to want it more than the people who had every advantage handed to them. Born in 1994, she'd be hitting her athletic prime right around the years when Japanese women's volleyball was pushing hard internationally, and I'd love to see what she looks like when the ball is in the air and the game is on the line. My gut says: composed, precise, and absolutely not someone you want on the other side of the net.
