Heidi Montag

I think it's too easy to file Heidi Montag away as just a reality-TV provocateur. Born in Crested Butte, Colorado, she became a defining face of The Hills and stretched herself into singing, modeling, and fashion design while the public picked her apart. What strikes me is the nerve it took: thrust into national scrutiny in her early twenties, she kept turning herself into a brand and refused to disappear. To me she's a telling symbol of the reality era, someone who absorbed both its glare and its glamour, and simply kept going. That resilience is worth acknowledging.
