My Take
Hideo Onishi is the kind of politician who probably doesn't know what an Instagram filter is, and honestly? Respect. Born in 1946 in Edogawa, Tokyo — right in that postwar generation that rebuilt everything from scratch — he has the energy of a guy who earns trust one handshake at a time rather than one viral post at a time. Four terms on the ward assembly, four in the Tokyo assembly and four in the Diet, capped by a stint as a senior vice-minister — the archetype is crystal clear: a local fixture, the kind of steady presence that keeps a neighborhood from feeling rootless. Not everyone's idea of exciting, but every city quietly needs one of these guys around.
