Hiroshi Tachi

Hiroshi Tachi has had the kind of career that had no business lasting this long. He came out of Nagoya fronting the rock and roll band Cools, left it for Toei, and made his film debut in The Classroom of Terror. Decades later he is still Japanese cinema's shorthand for a particular masculine cool: tall, unhurried, faintly dangerous. He writes his own songs and does voice work as well. Then in 2019, approaching seventy, he took the Blue Ribbon Award for Best Actor. Arriving is easy compared with refusing to leave.
