Inoran

Inoran, born Kiyonobu Inoue in 1970 in Hadano, Kanagawa, co-founded Luna Sea in 1986 and has played rhythm guitar in it ever since. If you only know Japanese rock through its loudest exports, that role is easy to overlook, and I think overlooking it is the mistake. Luna Sea helped define what the West later filed under visual kei, a scene built on spectacle, and inside that spectacle he took the least spectacular job on stage: holding the floor down so everyone else could stand on it. He started releasing solo work in 1997, and after the band split in 2000 he formed Fake? with Oblivion Dust's Ken Lloyd a year later. He simply never stopped working. Nearly forty years of continuous output as a guitarist, composer, and songwriter is a rarer achievement than any single hit, and it is the reason his name still carries weight.
