My Take

Ivan Reitman holds a special place for me as one of comedy's great architects. The son of immigrants from Komarno who built his career in Canada, he defined a whole era with Ghostbusters, Twins, and Kindergarten Cop, films that made blockbuster scale feel genuinely playful. The instinct to hand Schwarzenegger a baby and trust the joke is the kind of confidence few directors ever earn. An Officer of the Order of Canada with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, he proved that pure entertainment can be a craft worth honoring. He passed in 2022, but those movies still make people laugh, and I respect that deeply.
