My Take

Javier Assad is exactly the kind of young pitcher I enjoy tracking before the wider audience catches on. Born in 1997, the Mexican right-hander has been carving out a role with the Chicago Cubs, and I like watching arms that have to outthink hitters rather than simply overpower them. Mexico keeps producing pitchers with real feel for the craft, and he fits that lineage. It's still early in his Major League story, which is part of the appeal for me; there's room to grow and a lot left unwritten.
