My Take
Jennifer Saunders is, in my book, royalty of British comedy. Born in Sleaford and paired with her great friend Dawn French, she created Absolutely Fabulous, and writing and starring in her own material is where her genius truly lives. A whole generation outside the UK met her as the Fairy Godmother in Shrek 2, and her 2009 BAFTA Fellowship is a fitting capstone. What I love is the blend of warmth and razor-sharp wit she brings to everything. I have enormous admiration for a woman who didn't wait for roles but wrote her own path and made the world laugh on her terms.
