My Take
Jim Craig will forever be tied to one extraordinary night, the 1980 Miracle on Ice, and that is no small thing to carry. Stopping 36 of 39 shots against the mighty Soviet Union, he became the human wall behind one of sport's most mythologized upsets. What moves me is the image of him afterward, draped in the flag, searching the stands for his father. That blend of national triumph and intensely personal emotion is why the moment endures. From Easton, Massachusetts to Boston University to immortality, Craig reminds me that sometimes a single performance can define a life.
