My Take

Joey Jordison was more than a drummer with freakish speed; to me he was an architect of Slipknot's chaos. Coming out of quiet Des Moines, Iowa, he helped build one of metal's most theatrical and uncompromising bands, and the fact that he wrote and played guitar and violin too tells you his musical mind ran far deeper than the kit. I find his death at 46 genuinely tragic, a talent cut off mid-stride. Yet what stays with me is how durable his grooves feel, the kind of rhythm that keeps living in listeners long after the player is gone. Quietly monumental.
