My Take
John Carroll Lynch is the kind of actor who makes every single scene he's in better, and I genuinely think he doesn't get half the credit he deserves. I first really clocked him as the gentle, devoted Norm Gunderson in Fargo — a man so quietly good that he almost doesn't seem real — and then boom, there he is playing the creepy suspect in Zodiac, or the tragic Lucky Daye in Lucky, or popping up across four seasons of American Horror Story doing completely different things each time. The guy has an almost supernatural range for someone who gets billed third or fourth. Trained at Catholic University of America, Colorado-bred, clearly has real craft underneath the character work. I love that he stepped behind the camera to direct too — it tracks for someone this thoughtful about storytelling. Hollywood's great secret weapon.
