My Take
John Jarratt feels like a living thread back to the Australian New Wave, and I respect that enormously. Having appeared in something as foundational as Picnic at Hanging Rock and then sustained a long career across acting, directing and producing, he carries a hard-earned authority that younger performers simply cannot fake. What interests me most is that he never settled into one lane; the man kept building. Veterans like this give a national cinema its depth and continuity. When he turns up on screen, even in support, he anchors the frame. I find that kind of durable, unflashy craftsmanship deeply admirable.
