My Take

I think of Johnny Gargano as the heart of NXT during its golden run. Born in Cleveland in 1987, he made his name as one half of #DIY with Tommaso Ciampa, and that partnership-turned-feud gave the brand some of its most emotional moments. He went on to become the first-ever NXT Triple Crown winner, taking the NXT Championship, the North American title a record three times, and the Tag Team belts. At 178cm he is not a giant by wrestling standards, which is exactly why his underdog appeal works. To me he embodies the idea that storytelling and effort can outweigh raw size in the ring.
