My Take
Jon Avnet earns my affection mostly through Fried Green Tomatoes, a film that handles warmth and grief without ever turning maudlin. That tells me something about him: a Brooklyn-born, Sarah Lawrence-educated filmmaker who trusts character over spectacle. Wearing the hats of director, writer, and producer at once strikes me less as ambition and more as a craftsman wanting to see a story through end to end. He is the kind of dependable storyteller who rarely chases headlines but reliably delivers human texture. The fact that he was still directing features in 2025 says he never lost the appetite, and I find that genuinely admirable.
