Jon Oliva

Jon Oliva is one of those musicians I think the wider world undervalued. As the co-founder and voice of Savatage, he fused heavy metal with theatrical, almost classical grandeur long before it was fashionable, and Trans-Siberian Orchestra later turned that vision into something stadium-sized. What moves me is the emotional weight he carried, building beauty out of loss after his brother Criss died. I hear genuine sorrow and ambition in his work, not posturing. To me he is proof that metal can be tender and symphonic at once, and he deserves far more credit than he gets.
