Josep Maria Bartomeu

Josep Maria Bartomeu fascinates me as a study in pressure. A Barcelona businessman who inherited the presidency of one of football's grandest clubs, he steered FC Barcelona through some of its most turbulent years before resigning in 2020. Loving a club and running it are entirely different beasts, and history has judged his tenure harshly. Still, I respect anyone willing to sit in that chair during a storm of debt, pandemic and superstar drama. Whatever the verdict on his decisions, the nerve required to lead under that much scrutiny deserves a measure of acknowledgment.
