Julia Brownley

Brownley interests me precisely because her path wasn't the usual one. She spent years in marketing and sales before ever holding office, and I suspect that grounding gives her an ear for what constituents actually need rather than what plays well on cable news. Representing a California district while caring deeply about veterans' issues, she strikes me as the unglamorous, durable kind of legislator who gets things done quietly. She isn't a national headline magnet, and I think that's a feature, not a bug. Still serving well past seventy, with her retirement announced for 2027, she shows a persistence I genuinely respect in public life.
