My Take
Julieta Venegas fascinates me because she sits at the rare intersection of craft and warmth. Reportedly fluent in seventeen instruments, she could have leaned on virtuosity, but instead she keeps the song itself at the center, with that disarming accordion and a voice that feels like a conversation. Starting in a Tijuana ska band and ending up a multiple Latin Grammy winner is a beautiful arc. I find her music quietly radical, proving that Spanish-language pop can be intimate, intelligent, and globally embraced all at once. She is, to me, an artist who ages gracefully because she never chased trends.
