Kaoru Itō

Kaoru Ito is one of those wrestlers you might not catch trending on social media, but she's exactly the kind of person who holds a whole sport together. Born in Kyoto in 1971, she came up through the world of Japanese women's pro wrestling at a time when joshi puroresu was its own wild, passionate universe — grueling schedules, brutal bumps, small venues that somehow felt electric. She held the WWWA World Single title twice and made the double foot stomp her signature, and here's what I know: you don't last in this business without a spine made of something harder than most people can imagine. There's something quietly fierce about a Kyoto girl stepping into that world and staying. She still runs her own Ito Dojo, so she hasn't drifted far from the game. Respect is the word, honestly — the unglamorous grind kind of respect.
